| Scarred Lands: "Fifteen" |
[Jul. 12th, 2009|10:52 pm] |
Fifteen
A Scarred Lands piece about brutality, pragmatism, and life in the Kian "quarantine" camps. The Scarred Lands system has often erred on the side of harsh realism, and therefore this story deals with atrocities that some might connect with real-life events. I would ask that you do not read it if you think you will be upset or offended.
Please know that I try to deal with these issues sensitively, although the protagonist is necessarily blunt.

Thought I'd indulge in a bit of meme necromancy while I took a break from packing. Also, fuck but the weather is hot.
( Maelstrom- Gwen )
( Scarred Lands- Rass )
I would do Eivah, but I think the insane ranting would be a bit repetitive after a while... |

I am now officially no longer Ref of Warwick LARPs.
It has been a great year and I will miss it. I am sure Matt will do ten times as good a job as I did.
I am also now consoled by the fact that the next time Certain People become irritating, whine and self-centred during briefings, I can tell them to Shut the Fuck Up without getting in trouble with the union... |

Back home early from Maelstrom. Several reasons for this:
1) Our tent flooded 2) BJ has hayfever and 3) My enthusiasm for the event was sapped on Thursday night by some twunt threatening my friend with GBH for basically no good reason.
To PD's credit, they dealt with it very well, but I prefer my drama and anxiety to be entirely IC. |

Am currently sitting in the library, chewing on a tea stirrer, thinking about Victorians, suffrage and eugenics. Today's tutorial was vair, vair interesting.
Emma Francis v. enthusiastic about Women Against the Vote, a book about anti-suffrage, but as much as I want to, I just can't get into it. I feel a bit guilty, but I know it might just be because I'm hung over and tired.
Thank you to everyone who sent hugs re: Beej thing. I feel better but still a bit lonely. Working through it though. BJ is coming to stay tonight. I think I treasure the time with him somewhat more now that I know we're not going to be living together after all, so I guess it's not all bad.
LARP social tomorrow. Also my birthday. Woo!
[edit] oh yes! Remember "Rolex"? Jo and her lot have apparently been asked to perform it at some kind of arts festival. My little sister is all grown up! |

BJ and I can't live together next year. It's not anyone's fault--he needs to stay in Birmingham to work so he doesn't fail his PhD--but I'm still sad and disappointed about it, and worried about where I'm going to live. I have a month to find housemates in Coventry who aren't noobs.
Fail. |

Some spoiler-free thoughts on the new Star Trek movie:
* Plot: Some exceedingly good bits, some astoundingly bad bits. Enjoyable, but not really one for dedicated Trekkies. * Actors: It was well-cast, for the most part; no actor struck me as a particularly bad choice. And I don't say this about male actors often, but OH MY GOD ZACHARY QUINTO AS SPOCK OM NOM NOM. I would hit that with an inverse tachyon beam. Not only that, but his acting literally held the film together. It was awesome. * Explosions, epic battles, space fights etc: Just about enough to keep me going. The soundtrack helped a great deal; I think without such a good score, the action wouldn't have seemed as good.
Suggestions for improvement:
* Scotty and Chekov should have had bigger roles. They were great. * Uhura shouldn't have... well I can't say that without spoiling the film. BUT GOD DAMN IT. * Following on from this, there should really have been a catfight between Uhura and A Certain Other Character to justify and make up for the above point. That film needed a catfight. * Also, there should have been more lesbians. Maybe Vulcan ones. That would have been cool. Yeah, and maybe the Vulcan lesbians should have had huge catfights with the Romulan lesbians. In jelly. Actually maybe someone should just make a film about that instead. I know I'd pay to see it. |

Guess I should have expected that. Oh well.
In other news, I made another batch of Nefer-Ka-Ra event souvenirs today. I hope everyone is ready for some lols... |

Spent the afternoon looking up clips from Star Trek pornos. Don't ask why. Just enjoy the most GEEK-TACULAR example of a "DO NOT WANT" face that I have ever seen.

See, I told you. Pretty fucking awesome. In the loosest definition of awesome possible, I mean. |

And here are my bitchings:
( Only click here if you wish to read my bitchings. )
I thought long and hard about whether or not to post these publically. I have lots of reasons for doing it, all in varying degrees of self-centredness, but my overriding purpose was to share my vitriol with the world rather than let it eat me up from the inside. If you don't wish to be exposed to EVIL PSYCHOTIC ISSY ANGER then please pass this post by, but I would appreciate hugs, or even arguments, since most things are better in than out.
Thank you for listening. |

| BUY THINGS |
[Apr. 18th, 2009|12:37 pm] |
I'm selling some of my shiz! Prices are negotiable, P&P is £1.50 if I don't live near enough to give things to you. I will also accept trades/swaps/favours.
1 x Soft Yaoi doujinshi - FFX, Auron x Tidus, "Requiem for a dream". Japanese, no translation. This is very soft indeed (as in, they don't even kiss) so although the art is good, I'm not going to be asking much for it. £3.
(P.S if you're looking for something harder, I'm selling another Auron x Tidus on ebay.)
1 x Gag doujin - FFX, "So daddy". Japanese, no translation. Not sure what's going on, but the art is worth having. Also, a rubber duck gets thrown in Auron's face. Hell yes. £3
The first four Anita Blake books (Laurell K Hamilton). Vampires and sex. Sort of like twilight but with more balls and less sparkly. Also the writing style doesn't make you want to chew on your own eyeballs. £4
Arthur and George- Julian Barnes Signed by the author at a Warwick Writer's evening. Almost mint, except I accidentally left it in my window, so there is a bit of sun damage to the page edges (but not the cover). £4
It had to be you- Timothy James Beck Gay (male) romance novel. I never read it, so I really can't tell you if there's any cock. £1 or the promise of a drink.
A whole bunch of my old clothes, size 10-12 All in good condition. Cleaned and sort of half-ironed (my iron is not very good). Consists of: An interesting but flimsy pink and green jacket I got in New York and never wore A t-shirt that says "COUNCIL ESTATE PRINCESS" in huge pink letters A babydoll style t-shirt that says "I have very large breasts, but I left them in my other bra" A fake Levi Jeans bum-bag A sleeveless grey cardi A green crinkly vest top from Primark Emo, pink and black striped elbow or wrist-warmers Badly customised anime vest top A blue T-shirt I got in Hong Kong that says "World without strangers" £5. I'm more interested in getting these clothes off my hands than making any kind of profit.
More coming. I swear I had some bad lesbian sci-fi somewhere, but I have no idea where it's gone... |

AND LIVED TO TELL THE TALE.
Thank you to everyone for their advice, good wishes and love.
The colonoscopy was all clear, but the blood test showed that I had some inflammation somewhere, so I need a CT scan to check the bits you can't get to with a tube. Luckily, though, we are now 99.9999% sure that I don't have Something Nasty In There, so I am very happy and not worried at all. I can also eat again. HOORAY! |

Thank you everyone for the good wishes and advice re: tomorrow. I've been doodling in MSpaint to keep myself occupied (and my mind off food--not an easy task to begin with!).
So far I've managed one "Merchant Chick Tract". Those acquainted with Maelstrom may be interested to see the results :D
